Investigators work on the scene of a 5-car accident at Rand and Wilke Sunday afternoon.
A silver Honda Accord, a green Toyota Camry, a Jeep Cherokee, a Ford Expedition and a GM Yukon were involved in an accident at Wilke and Rand Road about 4:45 p.m. Sunday. All vehicles, except for the Jeep Cherokee ended up on the property of Walter E. Smithe Furniture Drexel Heritage 1775 West Rand Road in Arlington Heights [MAP/SAT].
At least one person was extricated from a car by Arlington Heights Fire Department firefighters and paramedics with rescue equipment. Arlington Heights Fire Department and Palatine paramedics transported 5 patients from the accident. One of the patients was transferred to a Flight for Life Helicopter in a Landing Zone (LZ) at Rand and Techny in Arlington Heights [MAP/SAT]. That patient was transported to Lutheran General Hospital Level One Trauma Center by medical helicopter. The other four patients were transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Arlington Heights Police are investigating the accident. Eastbound Rand Road was blocked from Route 53 for at least four hours during the investigation. Cook County Sheriff’s Police assisted with traffic control.
