An accident just after 3:00 p.m. in Elk Grove Village at southbound Busse at Greenleaf [MAP/SAT] trapped at least one person in their car. The crash was caused by a driver (Daniel J. Poole of Chicago) who would not stop for the police. He had already struck a car at Tonne and Morse and had sideswiped and Elk Grove Village Police car at Busse and Arthur when he ended up going northbound in the southbound lanes of Busse Road and was stopped when he crashed into a semi-trailer truck head-on. The car was being chased by Elk Grove police department for failure to display license plates, but the chase had been terminated by the police. An SUV and another car were also struck in the final accident.
Daniel J. Poole was seriously injured with life-threatening injuries. His car was split in half after the accident and extrication procedures by Elk Grove Village Fire Department and Des Plaines Fire Department were finished. The car remained at Greenleaf and Busse for several hours where witnesses could not identify the make and model of the car.
The Elk Grove Village Police Officer that was involved in the accident at Arthur and Busse was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center, treated and released.
Southbound Busse Road was still blocked at Estes Avenue at 5:00 p.m. Police are conducting and extensive investigation. Mount Prospect Police helped Elk Grove with traffic management near the accident scene. Schaumburg Police and Itasca Police were also involved with some type of assistance for this accident. The accident scene was cleared and all lanes of Busse Road were opened at about 8:20 p.m. Friday.
