UPDATED at 10:00 a.m. CDT …

A car ran off the road in Schaumburg at Plum Grove Road and Schaumburg Rd [MAP/SAT] and sent at least seven people to area hospitals just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday night. Accident victims were taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove, Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, and St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

One victim was not immediately found at the chaotic accident scene. Conflicting reports early in this news story question whether one of the victims was ejected from the car or was a pedestrian. The people that were struck by the car (possibly a Ford Mustang) were apparently sitting in the area to watch the fireworks display at Schaumburg’s Septemberfest. At least one person was seriously injured. The errant driver also struck two parkway trees.

Elk Grove Fire Department, Hoffman Estates Fire Department, Palatine Fire Department,  Rolling Meadows Fire Department (firehouse standby) and Streamwood sent ambulances to assist three Schaumburg paramedic ambulances at the accident scene. Plum Grove Road and Schaumburg Road was blocked near the intersection for an extended period for a police investigation. Plum Grove Road is blocked from Lamorak on the southside and Shoreline on the northside.

The accident scene was only about 1500 feet west of the entrance to Schaumburg Septemberfest (September 1-3) at Schaumburg Road and Summit Drive where many people were sitting in lawn chairs to watch a Labor Day weekend fireworks display.
