A Piper Cherokee Cruiser airplane landed on Northwest Highway near Sterling [MAP/SAT]
about 8:30 p.m. Friday after running out of gas. The airplane clipped a neutral power line near Baldwin Road, just west of Sterling which knocked the line to the ground. Firefighters evacuated an area of standing water near the downed line to take precautions in case the line was energized. The plane also grazed a red Mini-Cooper just before landing.
No injuries were reported. Northwest Highway was partially blocked as police searched and waited for a mechanic to remove the wings to prepare for ground transportation.
