John Edwards ‘message to the American people’ to speak out, not stand quietly on Memorial Day (johnedwards).
Excerpt from John Edwards’ video:
And the best way to honor their service and the best way to support them is for the President of the United States to do what America has demanded be done — and that’s to end this war. So this Memorial Day weekend, don’t stand quietly, don’t just go to picnics, don’t just gather with your friends — engage in an act of patriotism, show how much you love this country and speak out in support of our troops and bring an end to this war.
And the Response from the American Legion Commander?
Revolting. Paul Morin, the national commander of the American Legion, says John Edwards’ video, e-mail and Web site call for supporters to denounce the Iraq war on Memorial Day “makes me sick.” From the American Legion official website, “Revolting is a kind word for it. It’s as inappropriate as a political bumper sticker on an Arlington headstone.” He recommends, “If you want to honor these heroes, visit a veterans cemetery on Memorial Day. Attend a parade without the divisive political signs. Make cards for the comrades of the fallen that are recuperating in military and VA hospitals. Lay a wreath at the stone of a departed hero. “
Reprehensible. An open letter from jockster1968 about John Edwards’ attempts to get people to protest the war on Memorial Day.
