The Long Ride Home

... #ad▼

More on losing the Super Bowl later. The ride home has begun. The
weather is mostly cloudy and 68 degrees here in Miami. We just checked
Chicago’s weather and the reality is sinking in that we are coming back
to below-zero weather. We got another police escort for the ride from
the hotel to the airport, but the passengers are somewhat reserved in
conversation. We are waiting in our buses. About eight cruise buses are
waiting on the tarmac at Miami International Airport.

There are five jetliners returning Chicago Bears friends and family to
Chicago’s O’Hare. The plane we are awaiting is coming from Chicago empty, except for
the flight crew. This plane is a 747 and is flying the team back. Our
security check is right on the buses and on the tarmac under the plane.

And now we’re boarding.

Some players on board are joking and giving their jabs to each other,
but some are pretty somber.

A couple of delays have occurred, including an accident on a runway
before our plane landed at Miami International Airport..

I am sitting next to Linebacker Rod Wilson (#59) and across the aisle from Cornerback Devin Hester (#23) and Running Back Cedric Benson (#32).  Wide Receiver Rashied Davis (#81) is across the aisle and one row back.  Cornerback Charles Tilman (#33) is a couple of rows back.  Wide Receiver Muhsin Muhammad (#87) is also a few rows back.

I’ll update later.
