According to a recent investigative report from NBC Chicago, the City of Chicago “has spent more than $400 million over the past two years on migrants – with the bulk of that money going to private companies that helped forge lease agreements or provided staffing for migrants shelters.” The NBC Chicago accuses the City of Chicago of hiding or lacking important details about the lease agreements related to migrant shelters.

“We have given an accurate account of how those dollars have been spent,”

— Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson

Allegedly, there have been failures to disclose loan agreements that are connected to migrant housing.
