A male suspect of West Allis, Wisconsin is charged with attempted murder after police say he and his dog attacked a woman and a man who tried to help in far northwest suburban McHenry (CapturedNews/CBS Chicago). YouTube Tips ⓘ

John Birk, Chief of Police of the McHenry Police Department, announced today, Monday, May 6, 2024, the arrest of a subject in connection with an attempted murder incident that occurred Sunday afternoon within Peterson Park in McHenry.

Raymond Paul Link, age 47, residing at 2825 South 108th Street, West Allis, Wisconsin, was taken into custody by the McHenry Police Department at the scene.




The McHenry Police Department responded about 3:36 p.m. Sunday, May 5th, 2024 to a report of a disturbance at Peterson Park, 4300 Peterson Park Road in McHenry. The preliminary investigation determined Link had been with his unleashed dog in the park when he suddenly attacked and battered a 59-year-old woman, who also had been walking her dog in the park. The attacked was unprovoked and there did not appear to be any connection between Raymond P. Link and the victim.

The female victim was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, suffering serious injuries to her face and multiple dog bites. She was flown by a LifeNet helicopter crew for additional treatment to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois.




The Criminal Complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court on May 6, 2024 alleges that Raymond P. Link applied his fully body weight with both of his knees on the female victim’s head and neck, and attempted to strangle her with his hands and forearms. Link allegedly continued to strangle the victim as was unconscious and unresponsive on the ground. The attack of the man and dog caused a ruptured of the globe of her left eye, an avulsion injury of her left ear, an open fracture of facial bones with multiple lacerations, and multiple dog bites.

Raymond P. Link allegedly, also punched the male Good Samaritan in the chest and arms multiple times, and ordered the dog to attack the man.

A 37-year-old male, who did not know the suspect Raymond P. Link nor the victim, intervened and was also injured. The male Good Samaritan was treated at Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for a broken clavicle and a dog bite.

Link’s dog fled the area, and was later located and released to the care of McHenry County Animal Control.

Link was transported to the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock, Illinois, to await court proceedings.

Raymond P. Link’s Initial Court Appearance is 1:15 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2024. His “Status-Arrest” appearance is scheduled for Monday, May 13, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Judge Mark R. Gerhardt is assigned (Case# 2024CF000420). The suspect is detained with no bond since Sunday evening, May 5, 2024. As of 12:11 p.m. Monday no booking photo of Raymond Paul Link was available.
