Vernon Hills Police responded about 9:21 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2024 after receiving a report of two deceased persons in a single-family home in the block of 400 Cherry Valley Road. Upon arrival, police officers located two victims within the home, a 67 year-old female and a 77 year-old year old male. Both victims suffered apparent gunshot wounds. These victims were pronounced dead at the scene and are believed to be a married couple, and occupants of the address.
According to the Vernon Hills Police Department, a weapon was recovered, and an initial examination of the home showed no signs of forced entry. These and other preliminary indications suggest this is a tragic incident of murder-suicide. According to the Vernon Hills Police Department, the is not believed to be connected to any threat to the public.
Identification of the deceased is pending family notification and confirmation by the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Vernon Hills police officers are being assisted in the investigation by evidence technicians from the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
