Today’s attack from Iran is the first direct Iranian attack on Israel since 1979. The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps codenamed its attack Operation Truthful Promise.

“In response to various crimes of the Zionist regime, including the attack on the Iranian consulate section in Damascus and the martyrdom of some of our country’s military commanders and advisors in Syria, the IRGC’s Air Force targeted specific objectives inside the occupied territories by hitting them with dozens of missiles and drones,” according to a statement of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), read by a news anchor in Iran (published in Tehran Times).

According to the MEHR News Agency, a large part of Tel Aviv is without power, and a cyber hacking group “Cyber Avengers” has taken responsibility for cutting off electricity in “various parts of the occupied territories.

U.S. ships are prepared to help defend Israel, including the USS Carney and other destroyers and assets, according to U.S. officials. USS Carney (DDG-64) is U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, meaning it is based on the Aegis Combat System and the SPY-1D multi-function passive electronically scanned array radar.

The Aegis Combat System is an American integrated naval weapons system with advanced command and control, which uses computers and radars to track and guide weapons to destroy enemy targets. RIM-156 Standard ER extended range missiles, newer RIM-161 Standard Missile 3 missiles designed to counter ballistic missile threats, SM-2 based weapons, RIM-174 Standard ERAM (Standard Missile 6) missiles, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) systems, Tomahawk Land Attack Cruise Missiles (TLAM), and torpedo and naval gunnery systems are possibly involved in this combat system designed to respond to a large number of targets simultaneously.

The AN/SPY-1D is a 3D radar system manufactured by Lockheed Martin. The system is computer controlled and uses four complementary antennas to provide 360-degree coverage, and is built to track threats in high clutter, near-coast operations.
