A PTA Treasurer already on a warrant for financial crimes was ordered held without bond after she was arrested, accused of theft from a PTA checking account at the Sanborn Elementary School, 101 North Oak Street in Palatine.
The Gray M. Sanborn Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) on January 19, 2024 notified the Palatine Police Department about suspicious activity on the PTA’s checking account. An extensive investigation was launched which entailed reviewing bank statements, debit card purchases and numerous other pieces of evidence.
The investigation indicated that the PTA Treasurer, Melissa Tronina, who had been elected as treasurer in August of 2023, was responsible for over $12,000 in unauthorized purchases on the PTA’s banking account. These purchases took place between August 2023 and January of 2024. On March 19, 2024, Tronina, 41-years old, of the block of 3800 Eagle Lane in Rolling Meadows was charged with one count of Theft over $10,000 and less than $100,000, which is a Class 2 Felony.
Tronina also had a valid warrant from Cook County for a previous offense of Continuing Financial Crimes that go back to July 2021.
Tronina was brought to the Cook County 3rd District Court house in Rolling Meadows on Wednesday March 20, 2024 for a detention hearing based upon the active Cook County Warrant.
Tronina was ordered held without bond on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, and was booked and detained in Cook County Jail DIV08-2B-D1-9 housing, 2700 South California Avenue in Chicago.
Her next court date is scheduled at Cook County Circuit Court Rolling Meadows on April 11, 2024.
