A woman’s body discovered Saturday afternoon near the south shore of Nippersink Lake has been identified. The 57-year-old woman has been identified as Fox Lake resident Mary Anton, who was reported missing by her son on Friday evening. Her son checked on her Friday evening, and did not find her at her home.
Fox Lake police and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies put out an alert Friday and Saturday for a missing endangered woman, and residents in the area feared she had been found dead when news was released that a body was found near the 200 block of Leisure Drive in Fox Lake.
Fox Lake police responded about 2:45 p.m. to a report of a deceased dog in the water near the 200 block of Leisure Drive, and soon discovered the body of a woman along the shoreline while working to recover the body of the dog. Firefighter/divers responded for the recovery of the woman’s body about 4:38 p.m. Saturday.
Police are investigating the case, and so far have determined that Mary Anton was last seen by neighbors at about noon Friday. Her phone and purse were found in her home.
Police said there were no signs of foul play, and announced yesterday that there was no threat to the community. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow — Monday November 28, 2016.
