Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:03 PM Sunday to a report of a building explosion at 58th Street and Calumet Avenue Chicago , IL. Firefighters on the scene reported that a 3-story apartment building was completely leveled.
Firefighters have responded with a Still and Box Alarm, a collapse rescue response, and an EMS Plan 1.
So far there is no evidence of any natural gas odor or detection in the area.
Ambulances are heading for the rear alley. One victim being brought down a ladder at about 7:09 p.m.
One of the victims rescued is a 78-year-old female in serious condition. Two women, ages 78 and 51 were trapped in the rubble. A dog was also rescued from the collapsed building.
An investigation is underway to attempt to determine if an explosion before the collapse or if the building collapsed from a structural problem.
